Retailer: Introduce yourself and the company.
Harkirat Singh Bedi (HSB): I am an ex-student of BITS, Pilani and also a graduate from the Institute of Engineers (Australia). IDEB Group is a Bangalore-based conglomerate of 11 companies engaged in a wide range of construction and property development business including infrastructure development. The group has its own construction equipment manufacturing facilities. With its innovative concept of serviced apartments, it has also entered the hospitality industry. The group's turnover in 2006-07  is estimated to cross Rs 500 crore.

Retailer: What are the strengths of your construction company?
HSB: The engineering construction company carries out projects in areas such as roads, bridges, multistoried buildings, mass housing, complex RCC structures, power plants and steel plants and treatment plants. Established in 1997, it is an ISO-certified company (ISO 9001:2000). Besides a 4,000 workers-strong workforce, the present team consists of 480 members including 260 engineers. The company has all the latest construction equipments.

Retailer: What is the manufacturing capability of IDEB?
HSB: IDEB Equipments Pvt. Ltd is a totally self-reliant manufacturing company with necessary equipment and production facilities. It manufactures allied construction equipments such as tower cranes, batching plants and goods/passenger hoists. The IDEB Formworks Systems (A unit of IDEB Projects) was founded in June 2000. Located on a one acre-plot at Whitefield, Bangalore, the unit is one of the largest Formwork manufacturers in southern India.

Retailer: What are the landmark projects of the company?
HSB: IDEB has, to its credit, some landmark projects within Bangalore. They are Gowri Apartments , completed in 2002-03; Sigma Soft-Tech Park (SSTP): completed in October 2005; Spring Fields: 551 residential apartment complex on Sarjapur road; Sigma Malls & Multiplex at Cunningham road.

Retailer: What are the ongoing and future projects of the company?
HSB: Our ongoing projects are: Grand Mall & Towers, Bangalore; Villagio Toscana, Pune; Tivoli, Bangalore; Grand Mall, Mysore; IDEB Industrial estate, Phase-I; Doon Cyber Tower, Dehra Dun.
Projects that will be launched soon are Riverspring, Bangalore (Construction of 1340 luxury apartments totaling 28 lakh sq.ft on 26 acre plot, on outer ring road, Bangalore in two phases); Acquarius (33 million-dollar homes of beautiful architecture on Vogata beach, Goa); Villagio Toscana Dwitia  (villas at Hundri, Pune); Grand Mall (Retail space and three screen multiplex at Chandigarh) and IDEB Industrial Estate Phase-II (About 200 acres of industrial estate in Uttaranchal).

Retailer: What are the  major projects of IDEB in hospitality sector?

HSB: IDEB's foray in the hospitality sector was well-timed as it coincides with floating of high profile tech professionals and increased the demand for accomodation. The Tristar Hotels (P) Ltd (TSHPL), a 25-key serviced apartment is currently in operation. Built over an area of 25,000 sq.ft at Indiranagar, Bangalore, the TSHPL is in the advanced stages of developing eight properties with a total of 860 keys. These properties will be spread across various cities and towns: Delhi (Saket), Bangalore (Sarjapur), Pune, Chandigarh (Mullapur), Mysore and Dehradun. All properties are scheduled to be operational by December 2008.
