At Future Group, retail forms the core business activity, which is operating through its 700 stores pan India. Led by Pantaloon Retail, the group manages some of India’s most popular retail chains.

 

Requirement: With a huge retail structure, Future Group realised the need to align its processes with its business for quality service at a lower cost. It wanted to reduce capital and operational expenditure, integrate new business seamlessly and to improve controls and compliance across stores.

 

Challenges: Initially, Future Group operated through a decentralised model of connectivity and billing that worked in off-line mode, which was tedious, bulky and hence affecting the customer experience at the stores. Also, the off-line network connectivity was hampering timely and simultaneous roll out of pricing, policy and promotions from the central SAP application to the stores.

 

Solution provided:  Wipro changed the decentralised model to a centralised model with all applications hosted in the Data Centre. Wipro re-engineered the existing processes based on Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework.

 

At present the Data Centre at Future Group is running on SUN infrastructure and Global Service Management Centre (GSMC) to avoid data loss and to deliver scalable IT services.

 

Benefits: The benefits include high availability of all managed elements by deploying quality resources at stores, warehouses, office, Data Centre and GSMC, resulting in smooth store operations and enhanced customer experience; centralised set up resulting in faster rollout of new stores and solutions across the country; process automation for regular sales flashes across the enterprise - management is better informed to take strategic decisions; reduced time-to-market; single point accountability for all IT issues; event management streamlined - internal audits to ensure event process compliance and readiness; reduced incidents and increased footfall; increased control over asset movement and tracking - lower capital expenditure; and centralised IT support across locations from GSMC - Uniform and time-bound service delivery across locations at lower costs.
