CASE STUDY

GMR Hyderabad International Airport is 105,300 sq mt terminal with the capacity to handle 12 million passengers per annum.  The terminal building has 12 contact and 30 remote stands for aircraft parking. Other buildings include the ATC Tower (Air Traffic Control Tower), Technical Building, Cargo (100,000 metric tones capacity), MRO (Maintenance and Repair Overhaul), CFR Station (Crash, Fire and Rescue Station) and utilities having a combined area of 35,000 sq mt.

Requirements: GMR Hyderabad International Airport wanted to capture the sales data of all the concessioners so that the final consulate sale could be then sent to SAP for Rental Computations.

Challenges: The concept of gathering information from Indian retailers and computing rental-based on sale was a major challenge. As this is new concept in the Airport Retailing, the biggest challenge was to convince the tenant to share their sales data that too in the format as per the requirement. Secondly, all the concessioners were used to their own system of operation which varied from DOS-based application to Linux to Windows.

Solution provided:  AGS and Wincor Nixdorf introduced Airport Retail Intelligence Solution (ARIS) for the purpose. ARIS was developed for airport retail authorities who lease shopping units to tenants and then collect rentals and other fees from them. ARIS offers a flexible formula for computing variable rental fee based on sales value. ARIS also supports both advertising and promotion and customer loyalty programs within the airport retail space.

Benefits: ARIS has helped GMR Hyderabad International Airport to do the following functions:

  • Making full use of PoS systems deployed at retail shops, which can function as front-ends to collect passengers’ profile. ARIS converts such data into a powerful means for formulating tenant-mix strategy and enchancing customer services.
  • In a situation, having on board the reputed competitive merchandise, pricing becomes an important selling tool for most of the airports. Besides, how effectively can an airport executes such a plan, is very challenging. ARIS can help make it happen with ease.
  • Every airport has some kind of ‘satisfaction survey’ mechanism. Most of these are done loosely and are not retail specific. ARIS enables the airport to operate such a program with great results and accuracy.
