King Features appoints new licensing head

King Features, known for its brands such as Popeye, Betty Boop, Dennis the Menace etc., has appointed Carla Silva as the new vice president/general manager, global head of licensing.

Silva has served as senior vice president, marketing and retail, at Iconix Brand Group in past. While at Iconix, Silva headed and conceptualized all marketing, creative and retail initiatives. She has also held key positions with United Media Licensing and American Greetings Properties.

“Carla Silva brings a broad range of invaluable, international experience to her new position,” said T.R. Shepard III, President, Hearst.

“Working closely with our team in the U.S. and our global network of licensing agents, Carla will bring a fresh, unified vision to her role as chief steward as she looks to expand licensing and promotional opportunities and develop new audiences for our world-class brands around the world,” Shepard further added.

Silva has played key role in managing the Strawberry Shortcake™ where she headed and conceptualized all marketing, creative and retail initiatives.
