One of the global online marketplace giant, Amazon has recently reported that its Indian unit has been pumping enormous profit in Uttar Pradesh State, especially in Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) category. As per the recent data released by the firm, its growth rate in FMCG category has scaled up to 150 per cent in UP as compared to last year. State’s capital Lucknow alone has witnessed a hike over 125 per cent which is phenomenal, compared to the stiff competition and recent hostile business condition.
The portal displays a variety of categories to choose from like household supplies, beauty, health, gourmet, baby products, personal care etc. Company stated that its growth over past three year has been extraordinary and that a strong growth in FMCG category is from the tier II and tier III cities with almost half of the orders coming in from outside the top eight cities.
In 2016, overall the FMCG business showed a high growth of over 215 per cent YOY in terms of units, driven by grocery which grew at 412 per cent, health and personal care at 311 per cent and the beauty category at 265 per cent. Company added further that the FMCG selection today stands at over 19 lakh products and has grown over 500 per cent YoY with about 9,000 sellers on the platform currently selling under this category.
Amazon.in's total selection now stands at more than 6.5 crore products across hundreds of categories and claims to be one of the largest online store in India with over 1.4 million products in stock, available for next day delivery.
