Amazon's Samir Kumar to wind up his Indian innings

Kumar was a part of the team that spearheaded the setup Indian operation of the global eRetailer back in 2013.

One of Amazon’s front faces in India, Samir Kumar, VP- Category Management, Amazon India will now be heading back to its headquarter in Seattle, US. Kumar was a part of the team that spearheaded the setup Indian operation of the global eRetailer back in 2013. The team consisted names like Amit Agarwal, Country Head and Amit Desphande, Head- Seller Business.  

Kumar has been the man behind driving all partnerships with national and international brands at Amazon India and played pivotal role in striking exclusive brand launches across categories like smartphones, consumer durables, laptops, fitness bands among others. Deshpande, too, moved back to the US in the middle of 2015 and was replaced by Gopal Pillai, GM, Consumer Electronics, Amazon.

Kumar joined Amazon as a System Engineer in 1,999 and since then he held various positions with the company including Director, International expansion amongst others.

 The exit comes at a time when Amazon is nabbing huge milestones in its Indian operations outside of its home market of US to topple homegrown rival Flipkart. It has pumped in over 6,700 crore since January 2015 in to India unit.
