If all goes as per the company’s plan, Amul products will be just a click away from customers’ reach. Moved by the recent ecommerce revolution of the country, the company is planing to foray into this sector through an ecommerce portal and mobile app. With this move, India’s largest dairy products brand is aiming to capitalize on the ecommerce sector by launching its wide range of products online through its exclusive portal and mobile app.
The company has roped in Ahmedabad based ecommerce service provider firm - Infibeam Incorporation Ltd. to assist Amul in shaping up its portal and app. Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCCMMF) which markets milk and milk products of Amul has inked an MoU with Infibeam to make the deal official.
Explaining further about the company’s plan, RS Sodhi, MD, GCCMMF said that with consumer preference shifting to e-commerce, Amul’s objective is also to sell its products online. Customers will now have the option to purchase company’s products through e-commerce portal as well as mobile app. All Amul products including fresh milk, curd, butter, cheese etc. will be sold through its exclusive e-commerce platform and delivered to its customers' door steps.
Ahmedabad will be Amul's testing ground for online sales. GCCMMF plans to extend the facility to more cities subsequently. Company’s plan to start the service from Ahmedabad within the next two months. Amul supplies its products directly to few e-tailers and online grocers. However, for B2C, there will be exclusive platforms of Amul for on-demand purchase of its products, added a senior official of the dairy co-operative.
