India's biggest online fashion retailer Myntra has started its 'Big Billion Days' sale with a bang by selling approximately 5,00,000 units of goods on the first day of the highly anticipated shopping event. The e-tailer along with its parent Flipkart is running a mega sale for five days till October 17.
Other major e-commerce players Amazon India and Snapdeal are also running their respective sale during the same time to take on the highly competitive e-commerce market in India. "The sale has just been terrific. I think October 13th was probably the largest single best day ever for Myntra by every method like app installations, orders and gross merchandise value or GMVs. It was a record for us in all these area," said Ananth Narayanan, the newly appointed CEO of Myntra. We have sold approximately 500,000 units which is also a record for us, said Narayanan. The company has received around 2,00,000 orders.
The fashion e-tailer has also seen 4X increase in the app installation over the baseline on the first day. That GMV shot up 6X over the baseline on the first day of the sale said Narayanan who expects it to stabilise at 4X during the entire duration of the shopping event. According to Narayanan, the company's back-end and supply chain is also working better than expectations. "We have increased our warehouse staff and brought up more logistics partners. We are constantly monitoring the situation every hour," he said.
Meanwhile Amazon India which said October 13th or the first day of their "Great India Festive Sale" was the biggest day in the history of the company now claims that the second day has broken all records to emerge as the biggest day in the history of Amazon Fashion in India.
The company has shipped 60 percent of the customer orders in less than six hours on the second day, a statement from Amazon India said. India's largest marketplace Flipkart has earlier said it attracted 20 million visitors to its online marketplace in just the first 19 hours of 'The Big Billion Days' sale. It also claimed to have sold a million products in the first 10 hours of the sale
