eCommerce giant, Snapdeal has recently revealed some of its sale patterns for the year 2015. The company said that one out of every three orders was from the ‘fashion’ category which included products like apparels, footwear and other related accessories.
Snapdeal claims a 250 percent year-on-year hike in the fashion category with customers from tier II cities wanted to get branded products not available in their cities. Amazon also sees fashion as the fastest growing segment in the country.
"The trend is not surprising. There is less penetration of brands in Tier II cities, which bring customers to us due to a wide assortment of brands," said Rahul Taneja VP, Category Management, Snapdeal.
“Fashion continues to be Snapdeal's biggest category as frequency of purchase of apparel is higher than any other commodity. Fashion encourages customers to come back to us," he added.
Talking about the surging fashion market in the e-commerce space, Mayank Shivam, Category Leader, Amazon Fashion, India feels that fashion today, is not only restricted to the large metros, but has also captured the imagination of consumers in remote cities and towns.
"E-commerce is able to bridge the gap and bring fashion closer to consumers in smaller markets. Online stores also give consumers the convenience of accessing a broad selection of brands and styles across all price-points, all at one place and at the click of a button," added Shivam.
In order to lure more customers in this new fiscal, eCommerce companies are now coming up with better innovative strategies. Snapdeal has roped Shoppers Stop in a strategic partnership to launch a digital marketplace through a flagship Shoppers Stop store.
Customers ordering from Shoppers Stop store on Snapdeal can pick up the ordered products or get them delivered from the nearest Shoppers Stop store.
At the same time, Snapdeal immediate rival Amazon India has plans to aggressively invest in the fashion segment and make local crafts available for customers online. The company also aims to empower consumers through product information, reviews, expert opinions, styling tips and trends etc.
Observing such consumer behaviour and buying preferences, no doubt eCommerce companies will surely draw its focus towards offering a wide array of products tagged with great deals and discounts.
