Flipkart launches 'Li'l Stars' to focus on kids in the fashion segment

Flipkart, is planning to take kids wear as a ‘high focus' category in the fashion segment for the coming year. The company has also announced the launch of 'Flipkart Li'l Stars' an online store dedicated for children.

One of India’s largest eCommerce marketplace, Flipkart, is planning to take kids wear as a ‘high focus’ category in the fashion segment for the coming year. The company has also announced the launch of ‘Flipkart Li’l Stars’ an online store dedicated for children.
The online retailer expects children’s clothing and accessories to grow 5 times in the coming year. This year the segment grew more than 3 times contributing more than 10 percent to Flipkart’s overall fashion business.
Commenting on the same, Rishi Vasudev, VP- Fashion, Flipkart said "The growing exposure of both parents and children towards global fashion trends and the rising income levels of the Indian working class are one of the key contributing factors towards the growth of the kids' category.”
“Toys form the most popular vertical in this category, closely followed by kids fashion and baby care," he added.
The move comes after child-focused international brands such as The Children’s Place and Poney entered Indian market. Spanish fashion retailer Pepe Jeans recently launched its kids wear segment in India and have planned to opens 10 stores in the category.
According to Technopark, Indian kids wear market was worth $8.3 billion in 2013 and contributed to almost 20 percent of overall apparel market. The number are expected to increase by 22 percent i.e. $22.4 billion by 2023.
As per Flipkart, toys and mechanical puzzles were among the top 5 sold products in 2015. Technopark expects categories related to children and young mothers to show humongous growth in the coming future.
