Flipkart ropes in designers to help sellers create better products

Domestic eCommerce giant Flipkart has roped in designers to help its sellers create designs at par with the global trends. The company has partnered with Italian fashion companies Pitti Immagine, India’s Arvind and designers including Timzy Batra and Prithvi Rao.
Flipkart had recently launched an online platform called ‘Trendstalk’ that carries insights on the global fashion trends. It includes colour palettes, cuts, designs and fabric direction - as well as forecast to help sellers offer products that is in demand.
"With this move, we are essentially democratising fashion and giving a chance to budding designers, exporters and brands to create a niche for themselves in line with current and next season trends," said Rishi Vasudev, VP (Fashion), Flipkart.
The eRetailer is also organising offline workshops every season to handhold these sellers through their next collection.
Fashion is Flipkart's fastest expanding category with a growth rate of 10% month-on-month, Vasudev said.
The category has scaled upto three folds over the last year. Through this latest initiative, the portal is looking to target about 5,000 independent fashion category sellers.
Commenting on the tie-up with Flipkart, Annou Iyer, Director, Pitti Immagine India and TrendLAB Fashion Solution said, "With this, sellers now will have access to specially developed technical fashion content for style and design operators, designers, creative directors, buyers, clothing companies, producers and exporters in India, including both offline and online retail.”
"Initiatives like this will help sellers break out of traditional design set-up through globally targeted tools and trend application methods," he added.
