Domestic online retailer Flipkart, which stepped into the automotive space last year, has plans to expand the sales of two-wheelers across the country. The company said it will kick of the nation-wide sales next month and is currently testing the scope of the move with selling the entire range of TVS Motor’s motorcycles and scooters in Bengaluru as a beta phase.

TVS Motor's portfolio would be made available nationally on its site from May and products from all major two-wheeler brands would be added in the coming 2 to 3 months.

As per company’s VP for electronics and automobiles, Adarsh Menon, Flipkart had launched the automotive category in April 2015 by commencing sale of auto accessories on its platform. Since then the company has witnessed 600 per cent year-on-year growth in sales of auto accessories and auto electronics. All major two-wheeler brands would be on their platform shortly.

Not just two-wheelers but, all future passenger vehicles launched by Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) will be available on Flipkart in the coming time. Flipkart started selling M&M’s KUV100 which was launched earlier this year and the response to the vehicle has been quite good, making room for further interventions in the passenger vehicle space, claims the company.

As per Menon, the automotive category has touted as one of five fastest growing verticals in Flipkart. The company aims at providing a transparent and a smooth end-to-end experience to the consumers in terms of pricing or delivery. With this move, the online marketplace is eyeing to nab a 2 per cent share in the domestic two-wheeler market by the end of this fiscal.

Around 16.5 million two-wheelers were sold in the country in 2015 and Flipkart's target to acquire sales of around 330,000 units over the next 8 months is surely a big reason to worry for online auto classified portals such as CarTrade and Car-Dekho.com.
