Gearing up for the upcoming festive season, Amazon India doesn't want to leave any stone unturned. Recently, company has managed to pull Ravi Desai of ITC Foods on its side and now, he will head the marketing operations of the company. Due to intense competition prevailing in the business, company was forced to create the CMO's position for the first time in the country.
Banaglore-based Desai was working as the cluster head of marketing and executive committee member at ITC Foods. Sources revealed that the he had quit the job and was scouting for some healthy opportunities. In his new role, he will be heading product marketing, advertising and brand building for Amazon. However, the company refused to comment anything on the development and even Desai has dodged off the matter.
Desai will report to Amit Agarwal, the country manager at Amazon India. He is expected to join by the end of this month. In his decade-long career at ITC, Desai has served in positions such as branch head and as marketing manager during the conceptualisation and launch of the Bingo range of snacks. He was responsible for the confectionery portfolio and Candyman brands. An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, 1999 batch, Desai also has a degree in chemical engineering.
