Paytm testing 'sound pay' feature offers money transfers using sound waves

To make payments, the customer will only have to open the Paytm app near the merchant app, click on the 'sound pay' option, which will make the app emit sound waves.

Taking mobile payment to a whole new level, mobile wallet turned eCommerce portal, Paytm is all set to launch ‘sound pay’, a first-of-its-kind feature on its mobile application that will let customer pay for their bills using ultrasonic sound waves.
Commenting on the same, Nitin Misra, Head of Products, Paytm said, "Consumers will soon have the option of clicking the 'sound pay' icon in the Paytm app. It will transmit ultrasonic sound at a certain frequency and it carries data. The data will include how much to pay and the customers credentials."
Currently the feature in the testing stage and once it’s rolled out customers will be able to pay at merchant outlets using the sound wave technology.
According to the report, to make payments, the customer will only have to open the Paytm app near the merchant app, click on the 'sound pay' option, which will make the app emit sound waves.
The sound waves will carry all of customer’s information like payable amount, credentials etc. The merchant app will then get the money will can be confirmed by checking the eWallet.
Paytm is expected to launch the technology in the next couple of months.
