One of the leading online marketplaces, Snapdeal, promoted by Jasper Infotech Pvt. Ltd, has acquired an online multi-channel eCommerce CMS (content management system) and fulfilment provider, Unicommerce eSolution Pvt. Ltd. The amount and other timeliness are undisclosed as deal is in its seed stage.
As per the documents filed with the registrar, Unicommerce will be merged with Jasper. Recently, Unicommerce returned an investment of $10 million from Tiger Global to pursue the potential acquisition bid from Snapdeal. This acquisition might help Sanpdeal in managing everything from vendors to inventory and from warehouse to shipment and returns.
Unicommerce was founded in 2012 by three IIT Delhi students – Ankit Pruthi, Kunal Singla and Vibhu Garg and soon within a year’s time it received an undisclosed funding from Nexus Venture Partners. The co-founder of Snapdeal, Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal, were also the angel investors in the start-up.
An acquisition, if it happens, might create a conflict for other marketplaces which Unicommerce is associated with. As of now, no details have been shared in regards to any changes in the latter’s business model. Unicorn currently serves some of the biggest e-commerce giants like Myntra, Jabong, Groupon and Healthkart.
Tracking past few months, Snapdeal seems to be on a buying spree. Be it the overtaking of Gojavas for a deal amount of Rs. 150-200 crore, or the talks to acquire Freecharge for a deal amount of Rs. 2,800 crore. With intent to invest more than $150-200 million, Snapdeal is eyeing as many as five more acquisitions in the technology space by the end of this year.
