The Competition Commission of India, CCI, our official fair trade watch guard, is contemplating whether to issue orders of detailed investigation into allegations of unfair business practices against e-retailers.
"There have been complaints against the online retailers; we have recently heard the informant on what their grievances are and we have heard the online retail companies," CCI Chairman Ashok Chawla said here.
"... may be in the next month or 45 days we will be able to take decision on whether this matter needs to be investigated and we need to proceed under the competition law or whether it is not a matter concerning the competition," he said.
The complaints received by CCI include big home-grown names like Flipkart, for carrying out unfair business practices. A lot many eCommerce portals recently came out with steep discount sales.
What everyone awes at is the ‘Big Billion Day’ sale by Flipkart last October. It offered deep discounts which raised the eyebrows of big and small traders who were concerned about the particular campaign’s effect on the traditional retail market players.
