In order to lure more and more customers many eCommerce and fashion websites are now coming up with visual or image search features. Now, customers can use their phones to take the picture of the product and upload it on these websites and the system will automatically look to find similar or even the same product.
This feature of visual search can help customers to find more relevant set of options. More so during an impulse moment when a person is attracted to something she sees.
Online marketplace Flipkart introduced this feature last year, and Abof, the online fashion portal of the Aditya Birla Group, moved into this territory recently. Online marketplace for ethnic products, Craftsvilla, and fashion e-portal Myntra are also working to get this feature in their apps soon.
Commenting on the same, Prashant Gupta, CEO, Abof said, “For a category like fashion, visual search is extremely important, probably the second-most important aspect after 3D trial, which allows you to check for size and fit.”
Flipkart tied up with Singa pore-based visual-search technology company Visenze and Abof uses US-based CamFind's Cloud Sight technology. Craftsvilla has adopted Chennai based computer vision startup Mad Street Den's technology.
"Users are gravitating towards it as it is making search direct, simple and easy," said Oliver Tan, Chief Executive, Visenze.
“For one of our clients in India, we've witnessed a rise of about 50% in conversion rates while using visual-search technology compared to plain text search,” he added.
