Germany-based FMCG company Beiersdorf AG recently opened its first Indian manufacturing facility at Sanand in Gujarat for personal care brand Nivea. This Rs 850 cr facility with an annual capacity of 100 mn units per annum will address the needs of the domestic and SAARC markets.
Sharing views on the development, Stefan De Loecker, Executive board member of the company, said: "This facility will bring us closer to our consumer and enable Nivea in every consumers' hands."
Nivea will launch smaller pack sizes across categories with multiple price points soon, added Rakshit Hargave, MD, Nivea India.
The foundation stone of the plant was laid 10 months ago. The plant will manufacture emulsion products - creams, lotions, shower products and lip care -- for the market and will continue to source its deos or soaps for the Indian market through imports. Nivea's dependence on imports however, will be down 15% from current 30% over the next 3 years, he added saying : "This is NIVEA India's contribution to the Make in India Initiative."
The plant currently employs 200 people. Nivea's product range in India includes bath care, body care, deos, face care, men's care and lip care.
