Amazon India has roped in Arun Sirdeshmukh to head its fashion platform. Finally, the company has managed to fill the position that had been lying vacant since September, 2015 after Vikas Purohit’s exit from the company. Amazon had kept the position on hold and was constantly searching for a competent profile.
Sirdeshmukh, co-founder, Fashionara, joined the company on Tuesday. The move came right after Sirdeshmukh’s firm wrapped up its operations due to lack of funding. Prior to striking out on his own as an entrepreneur with Fashionara, Sirdeshmukh was the CEO of Reliance Trends, the fashion and lifestyle branch of the Reliance Retail chains.
We are very excited to have Arun Sirdeshmukh as a leader of our fashion team— Amazon India Fashion. We will continue to grow and gain momentum with his expertise and experience said Susan Saideman, Vice-President, Global Vendor Management, Amazon.
Fashion has been one of the fastest growing categories in India for Amazon, the company said. It said in the first quarter of 2016, unit sales of fashion products soared 200 per cent over that in the previous year while its fashion and lifestyle selection grew three times over the past six months to 15,000 local and global brands offering more than two million products.
