Freecharge ropes in Amazon's Fareed Jawad as VP-Payments

His appointment reaffirms Freecharge's commitment to hire industry's best talents.

One of India digital payment portal Freecharge, has recently appointed Fareed Jawad as the Vice President- Payments and Principal Product Architect to strengthen its payment technologies. Fareed will also look after strategies for building technologies for solving the unique payments problems in India.

Fareed, before joining Freecharge was associated with Amazon India as the Principal Product Architect. There he was responsible for structuring the core payment processing infrastructure for the organization. Before joining Amazon, Fareed was with Flipkart as Director - Product Management and was part of the core team that launched PayZippy.

Showing his excitement upon Fareed’s appointment, company’s COO, Govind Rajan said that his appointment reaffirms Freecharge's commitment to hiring the industry's best talent.

The company is on a cusp of a revolution to accelerate the FinTech capabilities in India. It looks forward to Fareed's contribution in strengthening its technical expertise and payments capabilities with his in-depth understanding of payments sector, he added.

Fareed will be responsible for developing products for customers and merchants both online and offline, in line with company’s vision to be the digital OS for the payments business in India.

Fareed has served the payments industry right from the earliest payment gateways with VeriFone in the US. He has also been part of large payment processors like Moneris Solutions in Canada and eFunds/FIS.
