Future Group, headed by Kishore Biyani, is now aiming to ramp up the market presence of its southern supermarket chain Nilgiris. The group is planning to take the count of supermarket to 1000 stores in the next three years. It will not only going to increase the numbers, but will also add new range of products in its kitty.
Future group acquired the Bangalore based supermarket chain in 2014 and since then, it is looking to spread its existence across the length and breadth of the country. As per group’s new expansion strategy, it will be equipping the store with a new line of bakery products and will be expanding its chain to other cities of the country.
Speaking about the move, Kishore Biyani, CEO, Future group told one of the dailies that the group has a target to have at least 1,000 shops in southern India gradually in next three years. It is revamping the chains and opening new stores. Group is looking positive about expanding Nilgiris capacity and it is also launching new products as in bakery segment.
Nilgiris is operating 160 stores in South India and has sales of around Rs 800 to Rs 900 crore. Though Biyani informed that the expansion will be done through franchising, but declined to reveal the investment figures for the expansion.
On November 21, 2014, Future Consumer Enterprises had acquired 98 per cent share of Nilgiris from Actis Capital and other promoters and made a fully owned subsidiary. Nilgiris operates stores in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala.
"We have started some online sales in the group. We have started it some brands in fashion segment. We are adding it one by one, where a customer would order in the store and would be delivered at your home or vice versa you can also order from home and would be delivered there," Biyani said.
