Amazon starts web based application software store for businesses
With more than 100 business software applications to choose from, Amazon Web Services, a unit of Amazon Inc., has launched a new online store where businesses can select desktop application software from a catalogue and start using them within seconds as per their requirements.
This all-new AWS Marketplace for Desktop App is a new feature with Amazon Inc. that enables clients to access cloud-based software for smooth running of their businesses. To use this desktop app marketplace, one has to install Amazon’s WorkSpace Manager, which is available for free with a limited number of administrative controls managing access to software application. Also, if a company needs to control employee access to desktop application, monitor usage and schedule software updates there is a nominal subscription of $5 per user per month.
The new AWS Marketplace for Desktop Apps makes available such desktop software as security and data storage applications, including Zscaler Security Cloud from Zscaler Inc. and IDM Ultra Security from IDM Computer Solutions; word processing and spreadsheet software from vendors including Kingsoft Software and Microsoft Corp.; graphics software from Smith Micro Software Inc.; and, for developing web applications, software including Microsoft’s Visual Studio and open-source software from the Python Software Foundation.
As per Jim Mains, Chief Strategy Officer at Smith Micro, the availability of the graphic software in AWS Marketplace will open door for a broad new enterprise customer base and will provide easy access to players of 2D and 3D industry.
