Titan Company has recently announced that its Managing Director (MD) Bhaskar Bhat has retired after completing the tenure of 33 years. As per the media reports September 30 was his last working day as he has been re-appointed as a Non Executive Non-Independent Director on the company Board with effect from October 1, 2019.
C.K. Venkataraman, who was the CEO of the jewellery business since 2005, has taken over the role of MD with effect from October 1.
Graduated from IIT Madras-IIMA, Bhasker served 17 years as Managing Director at Tata owned Titan Company. In an official statement company has said, ”Bhaskar's strategy of multiple stake owners focus has not only enhanced shareholder value very significantly but also created a very strong base from which Titan can reach new heights in the years to come.”
IIM-A alumnus C.K. Venkataraman has been with Titan since 1990 and worked in the advertising and marketing functions before taking over as his current role in January 2005.
IIM-C graduate Ajoy Chawla, is the successor of C.K. Venkataraman who has been at helm of Tata since last 28 years and five months. He began his Journey with Tata in 1991 and served various roles in Sales, Channel mgmt, Commercial, Demand planning. Before his current position, Chawla was serving as Senior Vice President- Business Incubation & Strategy.
Titan was started in 1984 as a joint venture between the Tata Group and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO). Over the last three decades, the company had diversified into a whole lot of lifestyle products including jewellery, eye-wear, and many accessories, perfume under the Skinn brand besides saris(Taneira), the latest product. Many consider Bhat to be the strongest pillar of the company's successful journey.
