How Amazon is Building its Own Loyalty Program with Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day, one of the biggest events to avail the best discounts and offers is almost here as Amazon prepares to kick off Prime Day at 12 midnight IST on Monday, July 15, and – for the first time ever – runs for 48 hours, offering members two full days of the best in shopping, savings and entertainment.

Amazon Prime Day sees a lot of excitement around the globe (India is no exception) as Amazon slashes prices on a whole range of items. With Amazon Prime, Amazon has successfully redefined the scenarios of online sales.

As per the industry data, globally there are about 100 million consumers who have activated Prime service. And if we look at Indian market, there are about 10 million Amazon Prime users in the country.  During the India trip in the month of April this year, Jeff Bezos, CEO and Founder Amazon had highlighted that India has registered rapid growth in its Amazon Prime subscription service. Through Prime Amazon has build-up a huge loyalty base which is way bigger than what traditional retailers do.  

The India Story of Amazon Prime Day 

It was July 2016, when Prime service was introduced in India, and Prime day was observed in the subsequent years. This year Amazon Prime Day has entered in its third year in India, and slated to biggest sale event of the year. 

On the lines of Amazon Prime, yet another ecommerce giant Flipkart has introduced Flipkart Assured in 2016, an inclusive customer-focused program that benefits everyone who shops on Flipkart. However, it could not achieve what Prime service has done for Amazon. 

Last year's Prime Day witnessed over 100 million shipments by more than 89 million visitors taking part in the 36-hour shopping fiesta. This humongous data, is a big encouragement for Amazon India to go all in this time with an aim to make it bigger than ever.

Amazon Prime is a paid service which was introduced at Rs 499 year; however, now the service is revised to Rs 999 year. Primarily, Prime was introduced to access free and fast shipping. However, now the ambit of Prime includes premium video content, exclusive offers, among other services along with free shipping. 
During the India visit Bezos has also informed that Prime selection in India now includes more than 40 million local products from third-party sellers, and Prime Video is investing in India original video content in a big way, including two recent premiers and over a dozen new shows in production.

For Prime Day this year, Amazon India will offer a one-of-a-kind virtual reality (VR) experience to customers in India’s top metros. Until July 17, customers in Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata can visit top malls to experience hundreds of new products launching exclusively on Prime Day.
Aimed at bringing the touch-and-try charm to online shopping, Amazon Prime Day Experience Zones will allow customers to enjoy an immersive experience before buying a product. They can view products in life-size, inspect products up close, enjoy 360 degree views and evaluate products in the environment that they are likely to use it in.

 
Prime at half price for Young Adults
Amazon announced today that 18-24 year-old customers can now get 50 percent (INR 500) cashback on joining annual Prime membership of INR 999. Customers can avail this offer by signing up for Prime and verifying their age on Amazon.in.

“We recognize that customers in the age group of 18-24 years want the freedom to do more with less. With a 50 percent cashback on Amazon Prime membership, customers can enjoy the best of shopping and entertainment through Prime, while at the same time saving INR 500 to spend on all their favourite activities like shopping, food delivery, entertainment, travel and more ,” said  Sahi.

“We are excited to launch this offer in time for Prime Day 2019 and hope that our young customers enjoy the 48-hour celebration that offers Prime members exclusive access to great deals, new launches and blockbuster entertainment,” he adds further.
