There was no mega city centre in Amritsar and people used to visit New Delhi or Chandigarh for the Mall experience, so Alpha G:Corp Management Services took the first move by launching the AlphaOne mega retail project in Amritsar, on March 05, 2010, under the signature name, ‘AlphaOne’ – Aithhe aao happy ho jao…Be here be happy!
AlphaOne is strategically located on the GT Road, right next to the elevated corridor’s one arm connecting GT road to Old Amritsar and the other to Golden Temple. It is the most preferred family destination delivering all the comforts for family entertainment and shopping. AlphaOne is catering to both, the domestic as well as international tourists, and most importantly, the people of Punjab. There is ample parking facility at AlphaOne, for 1,153 cars in the first phase itself (Covered Area + Uncovered Area), plus abundant parking space for 1500 two-wheelers.
The mall has total operational area of 3,76,341 sq ft, of which international brands has 16 per cent presence with national brands 75 per cent and local brands 9 per cent.
Mall promotional strategies
Shedding light on the mall promotional activities, Dr Prodipta Sen of Alpha G:Corp Management Services revealed, “AlphaOne has successfully understood the needs of the Tier II market via its robust feedback mechanism and translated it back in terms of better store and shopping experiences, range of brands, services as well as the interactive events and activities hosted. This, together with a dedicated and professional team, has helped AlphaOne to become the new City Centre that constantly sets fresh benchmarks for the industry with every new initiative.”
Role of eCommerce
As per Sen, as online shopping continues to grow at the expense of store visits, the premium in the future will be on creating unique, brand-defining store experiences that keep customers coming back for more. The presence of both will help to increase the pie of organised retail in India. As they will co-exist, they need to complement each other. While eCommerce is able to offer ‘value’, malls need to constantly improve the ‘experiences’ they offer.
Sen informed, “We recently signed up with Venus Infrastructure to manage, operate and market their mall namely, CG Square in Ahmedabad that we refurbished and started after a decade of it being out of operation.”
