Why is the Demand for Home Appliances in India Constantly Rising

The coronavirus pandemic has had a significant influence on the economy in all sectors and it is rapidly spreading around the globe without regard to geographical borders, race, ethnicity, or communities. In contemporary days, companies are being forced to adapt to the ‘New Normal' in a very brief span of time. The home appliances industry has also witnessed the impact. The shift in the working culture that is work-from-home has led to a surge in sales of home appliances.

Work-from-home culture has become popular in recent times and is now a need. This has resulted in a significant increase in the average ticket size of sales for comfort home products. Multitasking has become a necessity for many working professionals as a result of the lockdown.

During and after the lockdown, the category proliferated as consumers found themselves working from home and completing domestic tasks at the same time. Consumers choose kitchen equipment that save time, such as OTG, induction cooktops, blenders, mixers, and grinders. A dishwasher or washing machine has become necessary for them to balance domestic chores and professional obligations.

As a response to the restrained demand of the previous several ‘lockdown' months, there has been a huge rush in purchasing, as witnessed in June. By 2025, the Indian market's demand for electronics is expected to increase by billions of dollars. Additionally, there are more chances for the developing economy to profit from the market's rapidly shifting trend on the horizon. Smart TVs are gradually replacing traditional television sets. Not just in the foreign industry, but also in the local market, demand for fully automatic washing machines is increasing. Consumer preferences are fast-shifting, indicating a behavioral shift in demand patterns.

Home appliances brands are pacing up to meet this increasing need with the extensive line of highly creative and reasonably priced electronic and home and kitchen appliances. Brands are now emphasizing more on the distribution network, as part of their ongoing effort to meet the increasing demand.

Demand for household goods and technological gadgets have increased significantly in major cities and a similar pattern is prevalent in tier II and tier III cities as well. Metropolitan areas are also seeing an increase in demand for smart, cost-effective appliances with a creative twist. In terms of electronic devices used for working and learning from homes, such as laptops, tablets, and routers, tier III cities saw nearly twice as much traffic as metros as several employees from top metros returned to their hometowns due to an extended WFH scenario, resulting in increased demand from smaller cities.

Thus, the current and future circumstances due to the pandemic have resulted in opportunities for the home appliance industry in India and the market is bound to grow exponentially.
