With the festive season just around the corner, Sony India is aiming to capitalise on it. The company is targeting a 30 per cent growth in sales in this current fiscal. Last year, company had managed to pump around Rs 10,000 crore and this year, it is looking positive of beating its previous record.
Sony has already put its foot on the accelerator and launched a promotional offer in Kerala, since the state is all set to welcome its harvesting festival Onam. Kenichiro Hibi, MD, Sonay said that India is currently company’s fourth biggest market after Japan, the US and China. Sony is hopeful of getting to the top three.
Bulk of the sales happens during the festival season which starts from Onam in Kerala and runs through pooja, Diwali to Pongal. In Kerala, the company is targeting Rs 160 crore during July to September period which is nearly 30 per cent increase from a year ago, told Hibi. Sony has roped in popular South Indian actress Manju Warrier as its brand ambassador for Kerala.
The company sales grew at 38 per cent during April-May, which is more than the industry growth rate, said sales head of the company Satish Padmanabhan. Hibi said the online sales account for only a marginal share of the total sales of the company now. `It is mostly limited to mobile phones and hard discs. Sony India has a dominant market share in both premium TVs and mobile phones.
