Women entrepreneurship has started taking a lead in the retail space. Starting from building an essential framework to developing entrepreneurial skills, women are taking the lead everywhere. Similar to many other industries, retail is also an industry which was ruled by men until recently, whether the leadership roles in retail organizations or start-up retail ventures, women are emerging as clear winner. In the current scenario, there has been some significant changes in women being more vocal, leading their growth & building crucial life skills. On the occasion of women’s day, we are attributing few women who are young and have achieve something very extra-ordinary in a very short span.
Payal Jain, Fashion Designer
Payal Jain is one such fashion designer who has successfully build up her fashion label and has huge followership dedicated to her collection. Highlighting her entrepreneurial journey Jain said, "My love affair with the ‘Arts’ began at a young age and it gradually turned into a passion over the years, culminating finally into a career in Fashion. My childhood was steeped in art, music and dance; these continue to strongly influence my design aesthetics even today. The retail industry was very young and unstructured when I started my studio in Hauz khas village in the early 90s. Today it has evolved a great deal and the Indian consumer has come of age! Their aspirations and preferences are now at par with the global fashion trends and sensibilities"
Prakshi Sharma, Creative Head And Designer, Prakshi Fine Jewellery
Prakshi is one ace jewellery designer who is well known in the jewellery industry. She started her entrepreneurial journey from New York and since then there is no looking back. Speaking on her entrepreneurial journey she said, “I followed my heart after completing bachelors in Economics, and then I pursued my jewellery designing from Fashion Institute of Technology, New York City. I was exposed to international design aesthetics and sensibilities, and I recognized the need and the market for chic and contemporary ready-to-wear, fine jewellery in India. My education and upbringing exposed me to both Indian and Western culture which magnificently encompasses in my each masterpiece. I am a nature lover and want to discover the beauty embedded in it. Jewellery designing is my passion and I harmonise my love with my passion.”
Aanchal Saini, CEO and Co-founder, Rent It Bae
Aanchal Saini, CEO & Head Of Business, has been the stellar force behind spawning & conceptualization of RENT IT BAE. She is responsible for running all the facets of business right from procurement to business development. With her unique & interesting inputs, Aanchal brings in a lot of passion & commitment in driving the team. Prior to RENT IT BAE, Aanchal was a practising lawyer & was one of the founding members of the Delhi International Arbitration Centre, Delhi High Court.
Currently, RENT IT BAE is catering to customers in Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad with a customer base of 5000+ users per day. Highlighting her growth journey Saini said, “Presently, we are only catering to women and we have seen some great results. However, we definitely have a plan to expand our collection for men as well.”
