Amit Singhal, Head of Google search to join Paytm

Amit Singhal, Former head of Google Search has joined the board of One97 Communications Ltd, which runs an e-commerce online payment firm, Paytm, as an additional director on the board.

As per reports of Livemint, Amit served as the head of Google's core search team till February and now he is currently focusing on philanthropic efforts through Singhal Foundation.

Vijay Sharma, Founder and Chief executive officer, PayTm praised Amit for his achievements and expressed his excitement for adding him to the PayTm's board. He also added that he believes in Amit's strong expertise in artificial intelligence and experience will be very useful for the company.

Singhal, a graduate from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, and Cornell University has worked with Google for 15 years. it is also reported that Singhal has re-written many algorithms written by Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

Singhal is also an active investor and adviser to various companies. He recently joined the board of GOQii, a US-based fitness technology products company that caters to Indian consumers.

Reports also reveals that Singhal is going to be the 11th member on the board of One97, which also includes SAID Partners Directors Ravu Adusumalli and Vivek Mathur, AlAlibaba representative Jing Xiandong, Neeraj Arora from Whatsapp Inc and Tata Sons Chairman emeritus Ratan Tata, apart from Sharma.

Singhal in a statement said, “I have always admired PayTm for its innovative payment products and vision for financial inclusion. I’m delighted to be joining their board."
