If sources are to be believed, Hindusthan National Glass and Industries (HNG) is planning to foray in retail sector. The company which is one of the biggest suppliers of bulk glass container to food and beverage companies is aiming to introduce light weight glass bottles under a brand for retail consumers.

Explaining further on the idea, Bharat Sonmay, Vice-President, HNG said that the company is planning to come out with light weight glass bottles with a brand for retail consumers in the market during Diwali. Traditionally, it is supplying glass containers to food and beverages companies and this would be company’s first attempt to touch retail consumers directly.

Sonmay has been continuously involved in promoting the idea of using glass bottles over the plastic one and in order to boost the initiative, he has teamed up with Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to curb the usage of plastic bottles.

With increase in health awareness, prospects are bright for wider acceptance of these glass bottles for personal use instead of PET and other plastic bottles, adds Sonmay.

As on March 16, the networth of the company had eroded to Rs 123 crore, which is more than 50 per cent lower than last year's networth of Rs 313 crore.
