Kishore Biyani, CEO, Future Group is now gearing up to give a total makeover to fair price shops of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Currently, the group is involved in a similar project in Rajasthan and it is expected to complete the assignemnt by the end of this month. After overhauling Rajasthan, the group planning to roll its wheels towards the neighboring states of MP and Chhattisgarh, with an aim of cracking the similar tie-ups like Rajasthan.
The market experts have marked this step as a very positive and innovative move by future Group. They feel that certain pacts will help the country's top retailer to penetrate deeper into the remote areas where the opportunities are in abundance, but yet, are not being explored by anyone.
While explaining the idea to one of the dailies, Biyani said that group is almost through with 5,000 stores in Rajasthan (and) after that it will take another state. At least two more states are keen to let Future Group handle their ration stores.
As per the resources, Future Group has already held talks with some states including Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh to not only revive and rebrand their ration stores but also to supply FMCG products, train the manpower, and computerise the outlets.
A senior Chhattisgarh government official confirmed that Future Group has held talks with state civil supplies corporation and gave a presentation about revamping their fair price shops (FPS) through the public-private partnership (PPP) model. A team of Madhya Pradesh officials has visited Rajasthan to study the PPP model being implemented by Future Group.
