Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) today revealed a significant leadership change within the company. Tony Vinciquerra, who has served as Chairman and CEO since 2017, will be stepping down from his position on January 2, 2025. Ravi Ahuja, currently the Chairman of Global Television Studios and President and COO of SPE, has been named as his successor in the roles of President and CEO.
Following his departure, Vinciquerra will continue to support the company in an advisory role, taking on the position of non-executive Chairman until the end of 2025.
Kenichiro Yoshida, Chairman and CEO of Sony Group Corporation, praised Vinciquerra’s leadership, stating, "The extraordinary turnaround at SPE over the last 10 years would not have been possible without Tony’s deep experience and expertise in the entertainment space." He further emphasized that Vinciquerra’s strategic decisions helped position SPE as a key part of Sony’s entertainment strategy.
Ravi Ahuja joined SPE in 2021 and has successfully navigated various industry challenges, setting the company on a growth trajectory.
Reflecting on his time at the company, Vinciquerra expressed, “Together, against the odds, we achieved remarkable success and have consistently proven that this is a community built on passion and resilience."
During Vinciquerra’s leadership, SPE faced numerous challenges, including the global COVID-19 pandemic and the recent historic SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, which halted the Hollywood film industry. Despite these obstacles, SPE flourished, achieving five consecutive years of profit growth, largely due to strategic acquisitions like Crunchyroll, a leading anime platform, and the divestment of international cable networks in underperforming markets.
Ahuja has been at the forefront of the company's television production and operations in India and has played a critical role in SPE's recent acquisitions and sales strategies.
As he prepares for his new role, Ahuja expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "It is my privilege and honor to take the helm at SPE. This is a special place—an iconic studio with an extraordinary 100-year history of storytelling."
