Shubra Saini: How your logistics park can facilitate the retailers? What kind of plans you have for the retailers?
Vineet Kanaujia:
Retail industry functions on logistics and the logistics park that we have made is tailor made to support retail industry. Our biggest service to retail industry is our ultra modern warehousing. Our entire logistics parks are located at strategic locations and that makes the movement of goods seamless. In retail industry timely distribution of goods is very important and we believe in giving them time constraint services. We also provide 3PL service; reverse logistics and store-ready delivery to our retail clients.

SS: Why have you chosen southern India to make almost 1/3 of your new investment?
VK:
We have already established our logistics parks in the northern, western and the eastern regions of India. At the moment, we have plans to launch logistics parks throughout Tamil Nadu at key industrial hubs like Chennai, Salem and Pondicherry. Our upcoming logistics parks in Tamil Nadu would be strategically very important in fulfilling the supply chain and logistics needs of our clients in the southern region.

SS: How SEZ can help as a catalyst in driving your warehouse business?
VK: Special Economic Zones (SEZs) are one of the major driving forces for warehousing business in India. A large number of upcoming SEZs have necessitated the development of logistics parks for the domestic market as well as for global trade. With phasing out of CST from next year and the development of SEZs and FTWZs (Free Trade Warehousing Zones), warehousing will play an ever important role in the growth of Indian supply chain and logistics industry.

SS: What kind of special services Safexpress will be providing through its new logistics park?
VK: Our ultra-modern logistics park at Chennai spans over a massive area of 386,000 square feet. This is the largest warehousing facility of its kind in this region. Also, for safer and smoother movement of goods within this logistics park, we have installed high-tech equipment to ensure that the goods are handled very carefully. Customised plastic pallets of premium quality ensure that the goods are handled absolutely safely. The dedicated bays and docks at our logistics park at Chennai provide an uninterrupted and unidirectional flow of inbound and outbound goods. Moreover, to make our logistics park eco-friendly, we have taken special environment-friendly initiatives by investing in rain water harvesting, developing greens and using the natural sunlight during the day-time to conserve energy.

SS:What kind of scope does warehousing business have in India?
VK:
A. Rising investments in infrastructure and the central Government’s decision to cut excise duty rates for manufacturing goods would further boost the demand for warehousing business in India. Thus, there is a huge growth opportunity for warehousing business in the country.
