Ebony Gautier recently unveiled its first store in Faridabad taking their count up to six stores in the country.  We caught up with Abhijeet Mitra, CEO, Ebony Gautier to get an account of the brands journey on Indian shores.  

 

Neha malhotra (NM): Can you brief us about the inception and growth of Ebony Gautier?

Abhijeet Mitra (AM): Ebony Gautier was born out of mutual synergy between Gautier of France and Ebony, one of the oldest retail brands in India in 2007. Ebony Gautier stores represent the coming together of two key players to bring to the discerning Indian consumers the very best in the Home Adornment retail segment. These stores set in the premium shopping environment, provide a comprehensive range of stylish French Furniture complemented by matching Home Accessories solutions all under one roof. The first store opened in Noida followed by Gurgaon, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Faridabad.

NM: How many stores do you plan to open in the coming year? Which regions and audience do you plan to target? 

AM: We plan to be a national player with footprints now being focused at Western and North India. Our target is to open three stores this financial year followed by five more stores that we will add next year.

NM: Tell us about the store formats and products of Ebony Gautier?

AM: Ebony Gautier stores are spread across an average 10,000 sq. ft of retail space offering customers a range of products in living room, sofas, dining room, adult bedroom, junior rooms and wardrobe solutions supported by exquisite accessories. It is our constant endeavour that all Ebony Gautier products allow you to make quiet but powerful living style statement.

NM: How much investment does the company plan to do for its expansion plans?

AM: All investments are from internal accruals with a budget of three million euro over next two years.

NM: How do you handle competition from the organised as well as the highly prominent unorganised sector?

AM: Gautier itself manufactures furniture, starting from producing its own boards from sustainable forest. Followed by own design products manufactured in France with a five years guarantee. This coupled with major back end investment in two warehouses at Chennai and Delhi where by customer can choose and buy ready products as displayed in our stores ensures sustainable competitive advantages from competition.

NM: Is the manufacturing in house? If yes, where and how many facilities does the brand have?

AM: We have our own three factories in Le Boupere France, which is a two hour drive south west of Paris. The factory was started 52 years back and is state of art with best in house product, designing and testing facilities. We are ISO 9001, 14001, 18001 certified.

NM: What are your expectations from the years ahead?

AM: We wish to be India’s most profitable customer centric premium furniture brand.
