Our target consumer is someone with a vision to grow: Vidya Nataraj & Gautam Golcha

With growing fashion sense and love of that perfect fit and flare in clothing, Indian men have moved towards bespoke clothing and Tailorman, a bespoke men’s wear chain, took it upon them to provide the best fit and best fashion choices to these discerning men. Vidya Nataraj and Gautam Golcha, Co-Founders, Tailorman, claim to provide a revolutionary alternative to the way men experience shopping today- cookie cutter styles, over-priced yet ill-fitting and low-quality garments without a hint of personalisation. We talk to the duo about the brand’s expertise, its services and expansion plans.

Tell us in brief about Tailorman, its history and USP.
Tailorman was founded to provide a revolutionary alternative to the cookie cutter styles available in the men’s wear market today. We combine old-world personalization with cutting edge technology to provide our customers with accessible luxury and premium service. Our USP lies in our impeccable fit. Our team of expert stylists and master tailors ensure a premier shopping experience like no other. Tailorman insists on using only the finest fabrics; high thread count Australian Merino wool and other luxury blends, selected from the finest mills. Our garments promise to give you the best quality, design and drape, both inside and out.

What made you come up with a brand like Tailorman that offers made-to-measure suits?
The idea behind Tailorman came from the realization that there is lack of garments that cater to varied sizes. The one-size-fits-all approach in Indian retail results in compromised purchases, and that is the gap Tailorman aimed to bridge. We believe that every individual deserves clothing that is made-to-fit, no matter what size, one that makes you feel stylish and confident. At Tailorman, we have an eye for the finest details. We use real urea and lead free buttons for durability, German shoulder pads for the right shape and form. We wrap our button shanks using the latest technology to avoid them from popping. The secret behind good quality clothing lies in its construction. We are proud to construct garments that are just as amazing on the inside as they are on the outside. At Tailorman, every garment is pre-inspected and go through multiple stages of quality control before they are sent to the customer.

Tell us about your core offerings and also about the price range of the products.
Tailorman is the one-stop destination for all things men wear. Our product category includes -- suits, jackets, trousers, shirts, Nehru jackets, waistcoats, bandhgalas and sherwanis. The price ranges differ based on fabric quality and garment styling.

Who are your target consumers?
Our target consumer is someone with a vision to grow. He is smart, high-achieving, professionally sound and of course urbane in his approach to life.

Tailorman has partnered with Bengaluru Football Club as their official suits sponsor. How is this partnership going to work and how will this help the brand?
Bengaluru Football Team is known for their excellence and passionate fan following. Our association with BFC is the perfect story of sports meets fashion. We understand that the men today idolize sports and sportsmen. We wanted to reach out to this audience and spread the message of excellence, on and off the field. With this collaboration, Tailorman reinforces its focus on exquisitely tailored, custom-fit clothing for the sartorially inclined, ambitious Indian male.

Tell us in detail about Tailorman’s suits designed for the BFC players.
Our suits for BFC team are constructed in premium wool with high breathability for easy movement and comfort. Tailorman's BFC players' suit is a two-piece, notch lapel – edge piped suit in a midnight navy-coloured superfine wool; while BFC management suit is a two-piece, unapologetic plaid suit in tones of bright blue. The cloth of both the suits is light-weight with an open weave, so the players can wear the suits comfortably whether in Bengaluru’s balmy or Chennai’s humid weather. The fabric was selected by the brand’s designers for rapid crease recovery, so the suits will resist wrinkling during the frequent travel.

We hear that Tailorman has also unveiled its “Ready-to-Wear” line. What prompted the brand to introduce the line and how will it support the brand’s USP of offering perfect fit to the discerning consumers.
We understand that there is a segment of consumers looking for garments on the go, and our RTW collection caters to these clients. Our Ready-to-Wear collection is guided by the same principle as our Made-to-Measure garments. They are made to fit with in-between sizes and pattern variations to cater to varied body sizes.

What types of customizations on suits are available at Tailorman?
Tailorman works completely on customizations which ranges right from choosing the right fabric, to type of stitch, to buttons, collars, to any and everything that forms part of a suit. The range is too wide and versatile to be listed.

Are there any plans in the pipeline to enter into the women’s wear category as well?
Tailorman is presently catering to only men and there is no such plan to enter the women’s category as of now.

Does Tailorman offer “at-home” services as well? How does that work?
We offer 2 unique services -- travelling tailor and wedding services, which can be availed from the comfort of your home or office. We have a team of expert stylists and master tailors who can provide the full Tailorman experience at your doorstep.

Tell us about your market presence and also about your expansion plans.
