SOLE STRUCK!
SOLE STRUCK!

Enthused by the unusual art of creating pixie inspired shoes, Janota label is the creation of Angela and Edwin Pinto who live in the beautiful beach state of Goa. Having a name in the fashion world Edwin talks about his company and its inception…

Aparna Sharon Isa Dass (ASID): How did the vision of Janota originate?
Edwin Pinto (EP):
Being bored with the shoes available in the 70's, I decided to experiment with making shoes for myself. After much trial and error, I finally made a pair that was comfortable - and had style!! Since then shoe-making became a passionate hobby.

ASID: What inspires you in creating one of the most extraordinary footwear?
EP:
When designer Wendell Rodricks moved to Goa, I started making shoes for his store and for his shows. Our work drew a lot of attention and orders started pouring in. That's when I decided to go full-time into shoe-making - and ‘JANOTA Goa’ was born.

ASID: Describe about Janota’s manufacturing unit and where is it located?
EP:
Once I have an idea, I develop the prototype myself- sometimes in leather, fabric or even paper. The prototype and the patterns then go to a team of five highly skilled and experienced craftsmen. The shoes are then patiently and lovingly hand crafted, using the finest materials available. Our production unit, office and showroom are located in our studio in Porvorim.

ASID: Any special plans in the pipeline at Janota?
EP:
We are experimenting with eco-friendly materials and will soon start making ‘Green’ shoes. For this we plan to take production to villages and help generate employment.
