Established in the year 1912, MCC (Mahatta Camera Corporation) introduced colour photo technology to India. MCC products are sold from more than 30,000 retailers through a network of over 100 distributors across India. Ajay Mehta, CEO, MCC speaks to us about the journey of MCC and its future ventures.

 

Jasmeet Sahi (JS): MCC Group has been in India since 1912. Can you give us an over view of the journey of MCC in India.

Ajay Mehta (AM): MCC Group introduced colour photo technology to India. It excelled in the photo business and once the import policy was liberalised in 1991 MCC became the national distributor for Canon International. Since then it has built its national presence with an infrastructure of 18 offices and sales of over US $20 million.

 

JS: MCC calls itself a ‘marketer by the trade – not a trader’. What significance does this have?

AM: MCC is a marketing company – it understands how to sell a brand and maintain its brand values. All inputs required to make a successful marketing campaign are undertaken by our company – training, display, media ads, pr promotions, etc.

 

JS: What international brands has MCC brought into India?

AM: MCC has introduced brands like Canon, JVC, Polaroid, Panasonic (dmc & dvc) and most recently ‘Tonino Lamborghini’.

 

JS: Under what agreement has Tonino Lamborghini entered India?

AM: MCC is the national partner for the brand ‘Tonino Lamborghini’ for its range of multimedia accessories.

 

JS: What kind of products does Lamborghini plan to retail in India in association with MCC? Where all will these products be available?

AM: To begin with, a range of multi media accessories including – computer backpacks, mobile phone cases, camera and I-pod cases.

 

JS: What other projects are in the pipeline for MCC?

AM: We are in talks with a few high-end brands for introducing them to the Indian market.
