CASE STUDY

MK Retail has been successfully running six-store chain in Bangalore, with a vast range of items covering groceries, dairy products, bakery, confectionery, frozen foods, fresh fruits & vegetables, apparel, home products, etc. with over 65000 SKUs.

Solution provided and benefits

MK Retail adopted POS technology in 2006, installing IBM SureOne POS from Forbes Technosys Ltd. After seeing the benefits of using POS over desktop PCs, they went ahead by installing additional POS terminals in 2007. In fact, when IBM launched the latest power saving and compact SurePOS 340 globally in March’09, MK Retail was the first customer in the entire Asia Pacific region to install these new machines at its outlets in Indira Nagar and HSR Layout. This speaks volumes of their openness to adopting new technology as well as their confidence in both IBM and FTL.

“The key benefits have been affordable and power saving technology, which is low on maintenance and the products which are rugged yet easily compatible with our applications.”

Abdul Rahman, Chairman, MK Retail

“India would be leading retailing investment destination. With margins under pressure, technology would play a major role in providing greater security, avoiding pilferages and managing inventories in a smarter way. There would also be growth in online retailing, wherein technology would play a major role.”

KN Niyas, Director -IT, MK Retail

“2010 promises to be a year of recovery. The retail sector will lead the recovery as the adverse impact of the global melt down fades away. As the outlook turns positive, we expect that technology solutions in retail will be back to centre stage for not only top retail chains but also middle tier and mass retail.”

Ajay Singh, CEO, Forbes Technosys Ltd.
