CASE STUDY

The Welspun Group is India’s leading manufacturer and exporter of terry towels worldwide. The Welspun Group is the No. 1 terry towel manufacturer in Asia. It is also the fifth largest manufacturer and largest terry towel exporter in the world. The India-based company has 500 employees and operations in New York and Germany. Welspun Retail Limited is the retail arm of the group for selling home furnishings under brands ‘Spaces Home & Beyond’ and ‘Welhome’.

Challenge

Its legacy enterprise management platform consisted of several heterogeneous systems for each business department that were not connected to one another. This resulted in many repetitive, manual processes that led to data inaccuracies, which would take staff a long time to reconcile. To compound matters, the system was also difficult and time consuming to maintain.

Solution provided and benefit

In order to become a leader in a highly-competitive global market, Welspun’s management recognized that they needed a more advanced system that could deliver business critical data in real-time to speed and enhance the decision-making process.

Welspun found just what it needed in SAP ERP solution, which improved transparency and quality of business processes. With processes standardised and up-to-date information easily accessible, staffs now have a more accurate short- and long-term overview of the business, and inventory level across all its factories.

“Welspun was amongst the first few corporate houses in India to implement SAP’s ERP solutions. Since its implementation in the year 2000, the Group has benefited tremendously and it is reflected in our financial growth over the years. In today’s retail business scenario, seamless integration is the key. With more than 220 stores in 125 cities across the country, Welspun Retail is today the fastest growing Home Textile Company in the country and SAP plays a pivotal role in this much-needed seamless integration across stores. From financial accounting to material and quality management, SAP has helped us tremendously over the years and continues to do so.”
