Amazon India CTO Dale Vaz Quits, Likely to Join Swiggy

Dale Vaz, the chief technology officer at Indian arm of E-commerce firm, Amazon has exited the firm and has been roped in by Swiggy, two people familiar with the development said.

Vaz has already served 10 in Amazon and had been heading the engineering unit of Amazon India’s consumer business since 2014.

Sources said Vaz was leaving the company, and one of them said he would take over as head of engineering at Swiggy. He is expected to work with Swiggy co-founder Rahul Jaimini, who has been heading technology at the company.

Amazon India spokesperson while confirming the development said, “We confirm that Dale Vaz has decided to move on from Amazon.”

Swiggy, however declined to comment on Vaz’s appointment saying that Jaimini continues to be the CTO at Swiggy.

“Dale Vaz was one of the topmost guys at Amazon and this is a big hire for Swiggy,” said one of the person’s cited above.

As per the LinkedIn profile, Vaz studied computer science at Manipal Institute of Technology and did an MBA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He worked with Infosys for more than five years before joining Amazon.com in 2007.

At Amazon India, Vaz was in charge of the e-commerce website and the mobile app, entailing “traffic generation through customer engagement, discovery, conversion, payments and delivery experience,” as per his LinkedIn profile.
