Amazon unveils checkout-free grocery store

Amazon has unveiled its checkout-free grocery store called Go. This marks the company's big bet on offline presence.

Calling it the world's most advanced shopping technology so that one doesn't ever have to to wait in lines, the store currently retails only grocery essentials and readymade meals.

The 1,800 square feet store is located in Seattle. Amazon Go is currently open to its own employees in its Beta program and will open to the public in early 2017.

The 'Just Walk Out' technology, used by Amazon, automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to its shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart.

When one is done shopping, they can just leave the store. Shortly after, they are charged from their Amazon account and are sent a receipt. To shop, one would need an Amazon account, a supported smartphone and the Amazon Go app.

Amazon said, "Four years ago we asked ourselves: what if we could create a shopping experience with no lines and no checkout? Could we push the boundaries of computer vision and machine learning to create a store where customers could simply take what they want and go? Our answer to those questions is Amazon Go and Just Walk Out Shopping."
