Disney to launch apparel for adults

Disney-themed products account for half of its sales

Disney Consumer Products, the retail and merchandise arm of Disney UTV, is all set to roll out its high fashion branded apparel for adults featuring Mickey, Minnie and other famous cartoons. Disney hopes this move will help broaden its consumer base which is currently child-centric, and also boost sales its sales with the introduction of higher margin products. In overseas markets, Disney-themed products for adults across categories like apparel, footwear, sleepwear and accessories constitutes nearly half of its sales, while in Japan it is nearly three-fifth. Earlier this year, Disney had tied up with real estate firm Supertech to launch Disney-themed homes in Delhi-NCR, and it has similar tie ups in Mumbai and Kolkata. As part of that strategy, Mickey and other characters would feature on furniture, rugs, tableware, kitchenware, fans, paints, swimming pool and play zones in these homes. Mickey & Friends’ products, including apparel, footwear, sunglasses, watches, tableware, wall decor, fans and bed linen, amongst others, are retailed in more than 5,000 stores across the country, and it also has tie ups with leading stores including Lifestyle, Planet M, Globus and Cottonworld.
