Gurugram-headquartered dating app Woo has acquired Dus, a Los Angeles-based dating app in an all-cash deal for an undisclosed amount.
Dus was specifically designed for South Asian singles to provide them with dating opportunities within the community.
Sumesh Menon, CEO, Woo, said, "Dus has around 150,000 Indians using its app. This acquisition gives us access to their user base. We will be actively scouting for acquisitions to get access to the Indian diaspora in other geographies like Australia, UK and Canada."
Dus will merge with Woo in terms of brand identity and will focus on targeting Indians in America. Indian Canadian comedian and YouTube personality Jus Reign, who is one of the founders of Woo, will use the digital medium to promote dating app Woo among his fan following, which is primarily South Asians.
Taking into consideration that India has 25 million singles; the size of the country's dating app industry is estimated to be worth USD1.5 billion, according to entrepreneurs in the sector. Dating apps make money through advertisements and micro transactions in the form of paid features.
