Future Retail to spend up to Rs 200 cr for expansion of Big Bazaar stores in east

In a bid to expand Big Bazaar stores in the eastern region, Future Retail will be spending Rs 150-200 crore a year.

The company will launch about 25 such stores from April this year in eastern India. Out of these, Future Retail will be opening 7-8 stores in Kolkata and its suburbs.

Manish Agarwal, CEO of the eastern region of Future Retail, said, "We have a pipeline of around 25 Big Bazaar stores in the eastern region. Each store requires an investment of around Rs 2,000 per square feet for interiors only."

"The eastern region contributed 25 per cent of the national sales and West Bengal accounted for 30 per cent of the revenues from the east," he further stated.

The company has recently opened its 17th Big Bazaar store in Kolkata and 30th in West Bengal.
