In a bid to promote the sale of khadi, the state government has decided to brand the hand-woven fabric

In a bid to promote the sale of khadi, the state government has decided to brand the hand-woven fabric and launch it in Pune, to be followed by Nashik and other cities.

The government is also planning to organise Maha khadi festivals across the state, with the first one to be held in Thane from October 10 to 12.Nashik will host the festival from November 9 to 11.

The event is scheduled to be formally inaugurated by governor C Vidyasagar Rao and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis at Rajbhavan in Mumbai on October 9.

The festival, which will showcase all khadi products, will be held in 20 districts across Maharashtra between October 9 and December 17.

Ramesh Surung, Nashik district officer, Maharashtra State Khadi & Village Industries Board (MSKVIB) “We are working on promoting, branding and marketing khadi products in the state. The first outlet will soon be opened in Pune and the CM will inaugurate it. Around 1,500 visitors are expected for the festival in each city. Moreover, students from at least three schools in the host city will be invited each day.

The MSKVIB also has plans to open at least one khadi outlet in each region of Maharashtra. Apart from khadi, other products manufactured by rural entrepreneurs will also be put on sale through these outlets.
