Reliance Retail on the threshold of new alliance with foreign companies
It’s a new turn in retailing with the speculation of prospective tie-ups of Reliance Retail, with the MNCs that include fresh fruit and vegetable suppliers Dole and Chiquita—both based in the US, and meat retailers Sadia of Brazil and France`s Doux. The development indicates the company’s intention of making food retailing a major portfolio. So far, Reliance Fresh and Reliance Super—the company`s small and large format supermarkets—had been sourcing vegetables and fruits mostly through mandis and middlemen. With these tie-ups, Reliance will have access to the MNCs’ technology and processes. Reliance Retail has adopted tie-ups as the effective tool for growth and expansion. Reliance Retail has already expanded its portfolio by venturing in non-veg food segment by launching the brand “Delight”. With this, for the first time a major retailer had shown interest in organized non-veg food retailing.
