Ecommerce player Snapdeal has announced the appointment of Jason Kothari as the new CEO of Jasper Infotech-owned digital payments platform FreeCharge. The position was lying vacant when the company’s former CEO Govind Rajan quit FreeCharge in the end of the last month, this year.

Along with this fresh appointment announcement, Snapdeal also said they plan to invest an additional $20 million in FreeCharge, which the digital payment company is going to use to further accelerate innovations and growth.

Kunal Bahl, Co-founder & CEO, Snapdeal, said, "As India moves towards a cashless and digital economy, we are certain that FreeCharge will play a pivotal role in the transition. We remain committed to the success and vision of FreeCharge. Jason is a strong, strategic and versatile business leader & entrepreneur who has already been the CEO of two successful companies. We are delighted to announce his leadership role at FreeCharge."

Apart from his new role as CEO of FreeCharge, Kothari will continue his position at Snapdeal as chief strategy and investment officer. Snapdeal said, he will also join the board of directors of FreeCharge.

Kothari said, "The digital payments space in India is forecasted to be over $ 1 trillion by 2025. I’m excited to join the talented team at FreeCharge at such a high-growth and dynamic time in the industry and expect FreeCharge to continue to play a key role in this digital payments revolution."

In his most recent stint, Kothari was CEO of Softbank-backed online real estate company Housing.com. Before Housing.com, Kothari served as CEO and vice chairman of Valiant Entertainment, a character entertainment company.
