Sony India targets Rs 250 crore sales in the eastern region this festive season

Sony India is targeting Rs 250 crore sales in the eastern region as part of its strategy to aim for 25% growth during the festive season. The Japanese consumer electronics major has rolled out new product portfolio and consumer promotions for this. Sony India managing director Kenichiro Hibi said the company is hopeful of a buoyant festive season sales with consumer demand returning as data from the recently concluded Independence Day sales showed. He said the impact of the transition to goods and services tax (GST) has moderated by now. “We were expecting a much bigger turmoil due to the transition to GST. However, the industry has managed much better and the impact has moderated by now. We expect a buoyant festive sales since the underlying consumer demand is strong,” Hibi said. Hibi also feels consolidation is imminent in the online television space where scores of brands have entered and are under-cutting prices to gain market. “Online is a good platform for new brands to quickly gain scale. But we think it has limitations for products like television since consumers can’t see the picture or hear the sound. But it’s a good platform for youth products like mobile phones and accessories which is what we are betting on,” Hibi said.

He, however, said the company has partnership with all leading e-commerce marketplaces and selling all its products through them though the contribution to overall sales is small.
