Toys retailing giant Hamleys reaches 100 store milestone in India

Hamleys, the iconic British toys retailer, has launched its 100th store at MGF Metropolitan Mall, Gurgaon. Toys retailing giant was acquired by Reliance Brands Limited, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, for about Rs 620 crore in an all-cash deal.

Spread across 4,500 sq ft, the new stores is designed by UK-based design studio Zebra.

Hamleys forayed into Indian in 2010 with its first store at High Street Phoenix Mumbai. The brand is presently the largest toy retailer in the country with 100 stores in 36 cities.

Darshan Mehta, Chief Executive of Reliance Brand, said, “Every year for more than 3 million families visit to one of the 100 Hamleys store in India is a reward in itself.”

A Hamleys Spokesperson stated, “One of the major highlights of the new store is its U shaped Façade. We encountered a lot of challenges while executing the glass facade but we decided that only glass would do justice to the U shape of the building. It took us 3 months to complete the entire project and now it looks like a premium store. Façade is something we really focus on as a statement of the brand vision.”
