WOODLAND-UNICEF Pact for Social Cause

As part of their commitment to a green environment, global adventure wear brand Woodland and UNICEF will partner together over the next four months to raise funds for safe drinking and fluoride-free water.

As part of the strategic alliance, Woodland is starting a Customer Fundraising program and has generously offered to raise donations from its customers for UNICEF to benefit more than 8,000 children and families in Chandrapur district, eastern Maharashtra.

Mr.Harkirat Singh, Managing Director, Woodland and Ms. Karin Hulshof, UNICEF India Representative, signed the agreement which will give the opportunity to Woodland customers to donate Rs.10/- per transaction every time they approach the billing counter. The campaign will run at all of Woodland’s stores Pan India between June to October.

“The business community can make an important contribution towards the realisation of child rights not only through its own practices and policies, but also by using its influence to impact children’s lives,” Mr. Singh said at today’s signing ceremony.

“Children weakened by diarrhoea are more vulnerable to malnutrition and infections such as pneumonia. Clean, safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene in schools is the right of every child,” said Ms. Hulshof. “This partnership leverages the strengths of the corporate sector on behalf of Maharashtra’s children.”

The alliance will contribute to one of the Central Government’s flagship programmes, the Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC). Maharashtra is a priority state constituting eight per cent of the Government’s total sanitation target.
